BLACK BAY GMT S&G
Last year the TUDOR Black Bay GMT model, equipped with the integrated Manufacture Calibre GMT, was unveiled in a Steel & Gold (S&G) variation, it offers a warm and nostalgic appeal, featuring a charming colour scheme.
The Black Bay GMT S&G boasts a practical multi-time zone function that enables you to keep track of local time while simultaneously monitoring two additional time zones. You can easily identify it by its 24-hour graduated rotating bezel, showcasing two distinct colours to represent day and night. This design element pays a subtle tribute to the historical significance of this watchmaking feature.
The "Snowflake" hand marks the reference time, performing a 24-hour rotation, while local time is indicated by a shorter "Snowflake" hand, adjusted with a jumping hour for easy forwards or backward adjustments. The date is linked to local time, ensuring it instantly jumps to the previous day when setting the time across midnight. The watch allows you to track a third time zone with its 24-hour graduated rotating bezel and dedicated "24-hour" hand. On the bezel's anodized aluminium disc, daytime hours are gold on the brown section, and nighttime hours are on the black section.
The Black Bay GMT S&G features the Manufacture Calibre MT5652 with a built-in GMT function, showcasing TUDOR's unique approach to incorporating new functions into their movements. This robust and precise calibre boasts a non-magnetic silicon balance spring and is not only COSC-certified but actually exceeds COSC standards, with a daily variation of between -2 and +4 seconds when fully assembled. Notably, it offers a "weekend-proof" power reserve of around 70 hours, allowing the watch to be taken off on a Friday evening and worn again on Monday without needing a reset.
TUDOR's commitment to quality extends to its straps. The Black Bay GMT S&G comes with a black strap featuring a beige band woven using traditional methods. The model is also available with a stainless steel and yellow gold bracelet, reminiscent of TUDOR's iconic riveted bracelets from the 1950s and 1960s. Additionally, there's a brown leather strap option with light top-stitching and a folding clasp for added versatility.
BLACK BAY CHRONO S&G
The stylish chronograph within the Black Bay series, crafted in steel and yellow gold and powered by a self-winding Manufacture Calibre, which includes a column wheel and vertical clutch, upholds the rich heritage of sports-oriented timepieces.
TUDOR has a longstanding connection with the world of motorsport dating back to the introduction of the Oysterdate in 1970, the brand's inaugural chronograph. Similarly, since 1954, TUDOR has consistently enhanced its professional diving watches. The Black Bay Chrono S&G model amalgamates these traditions in a sporty yet elegant chronograph.
The Black Bay Chrono S&G maintains the iconic Black Bay design, featuring the signature "Snowflake" hands that ensure exceptional readability on the domed dial. It comes in two versions, one with a matte black dial and the other with a sunray satin-finish champagne-coloured dial. These dials incorporate two sub-dials in contrasting colours for legibility, inspired by the first generation of TUDOR chronographs. The 41mm steel and yellow gold case preserves the distinctive Black Bay characteristics, with meticulous attention to detail, including pushers inspired by early TUDOR chronographs and a fixed bezel in yellow gold with a black anodized aluminium insert and tachymetric scale. The watch offers versatile options for straps, with a black fabric strap, a stainless steel and yellow gold bracelet reminiscent of the classic riveted design, or an aged dark brown leather bund strap for a true "1970s racing" feel.
Powering the Black Bay Chrono S&G is the Manufacture Calibre MT5813, featuring hours, minutes, seconds, chronograph, and date functions. It boasts a 70-hour power reserve, a silicon balance spring, and COSC certification for precision. This movement, developed in collaboration with Breitling, adheres to strict accuracy standards and embodies TUDOR's commitment to quality and reliability.
BLACK BAY 31/36/39/41
TUDOR’s Black Bay line comes with fixed bezels in four different sizes, all powered by in-house Manufacture Calibres. These models sport curved cases with a mix of finishes, departing slightly from TUDOR's tool watch identity to embrace a more versatile, unisex, and chic look. The five-link bracelet with a TUDOR "T-fit" clasp offers rapid adjustment for enhanced comfort. Additionally, the updated sunray dials add a stylish touch, featuring contrasting minute tracks that infuse warmth into the design.
The Black Bay 31/36/39/41 models feature a refined, curved interpretation of the iconic Black Bay aesthetic. Their polished and domed sides, consistent across all sizes, give them a graceful silhouette accentuated by a newly designed curved winding crown. These models also inherit the polished bezel and crown from the previously introduced S&G models.
TUDOR offers three self-winding movement families, each utilized in different sizes of the Black Bay 31/36/39/41 models: large (MT56), medium (MT54), and small (MT52). TUDOR Manufacture Calibres have been meticulously crafted to ensure durability, longevity, reliability, and precision. They feature a variable inertia balance, held in place by a robust traversing bridge with a two-point fixation. Combined with non-magnetic silicon balance springs, these calibres are certified as chronometers by the Official Swiss Chronometer Testing Institute (COSC), surpassing its stringent standards.
Another notable aspect is the substantial power reserve of approximately 70 hours for the large and medium-sized TUDOR Manufacture Calibres, making them "weekend-proof." This means wearers can take their watches off on a Friday evening and put them back on Monday morning without the need to reset the watch. For the Manufacture Calibre MT5201 (part of the small movements family), the power reserve is around 50 hours.
All Black Bay 31/36/39/41 models are offered with a five-link 316L steel bracelet. These bracelets come with a robust 316L steel clasp featuring TUDOR's practical "T-fit" rapid adjustment system. This user-friendly system, requiring no tools, offers five positions for quick and easy size adjustments, allowing wearers to fine-tune the fit with an instant 8mm adjustment on the clasp.
