It's been an exciting time at the Watches and Wonders show in Geneva! A flurry of new releases from TUDOR that expands the Black Bay and Royal collections have us very excited.
BLACK BAY PRO
The Black Bay Pro model reflects the heritage of the instruments used by the 30 pioneering explorers who embarked on the British North Greenland Expedition 70 years ago, with TUDOR watches on their wrists.
With this watch, TUDOR brings to you an entirely new model with a dual time zone feature which establishes local time without losing sight of the time in another time zone. The Black Bay Pro has a 39-millimetre diameter, fixed steel bezel and a Manufacture Calibre with built-in GMT function.
Although this model is part of the Black Bay line, its introduction continues to innovate; with the winding crown being fully redesigned for maximum grip. In addition, the hour markers on the dial are made from monobloc luminous ceramic, increasing their luminous surface.
The Black Bay Pro is available on a steel bracelet, Jacquard-woven strap or leather strap, with the introduction of a new clasp on the bracelet featuring a TUDOR “T-fit” rapid size-adjustment system which completes the list of innovations included in this model.
BLACK BAY GMT S&G
The highly sought-after Black Bay GMT model with integrated Manufacture Calibre GMT returns to the spotlight with warm vintage colours and a nostalgic touch in the new S&G (Steel & Gold) version.
The reference and local times are indicated by the classic “Snowflake” hand, an aesthetic synonymous with the TUDOR brand and its history. The shorter “Snowflake” hand is linked to the date function set in an aperture at 3 o’clock. The 24-hour graduated bidirectional rotating bezel and “24-hour” hand mean you can also keep track of a third time zone which is highlighted by a split of brown and black to indicate the daytime and night hours.
The Manufacture Calibre MT5652 with built in GMT function has been developed for the Black Bay GMT S&G model and comes with a notable 70-hour power reserve and is COSC-certified with a silicon balanced spring. Watchmaking purists will appreciate the ability to draw on adaptable architecture capable of including new functions into its manufactured movements rather than resorting to additional modules.
The iconic fabric strap woven in France using a traditional method on 19th century Jacquard looms by the Julien Faure company in the St-Etienne region is one of the three strap configurations available on the Black Bay GMT S&G. You can also choose between a stainless steel yellow and gold bracelet, a reference to the riveted bracelets made by TUDOR in the 1950s and 1960s or a stylish brown leather strap with contrasting top-stitching and a folding clasp.
The Black Bay line is the result of a blend of traditional aesthetics and contemporary watchmaking, and this new Black Bay GMT S&G seems a wonderful new addition to an already fantastic range of timepieces.
BLACK BAY CHRONO S&G
TUDOR has been producing watches that are closely tied to the world of motorsport since the release of the Oysterdate in 1970, when they released their first chronograph. Following in the purest tradition of sporting timepieces, TUDOR brings to you the chic chronograph in the Black Bay line in steel and yellow gold, with a self-winding Manufacture Calibre.
The new Black Bay Chrono S&G has adopted the famous “Snowflake” hands, a brand signature for divers’ watches since 1969 and a staple of the Black Bay aesthetic which ensures incredible readability against the domed dial.
Available in either a matt black or a sunray satin-finish champagne colour, the dial includes two recessed sub-counters in contrasting colours, a champagne colour and matt black respectively allowing for maximum clarity.
Powered by the impressive Manufacture Calibre MT5813 which boasts a 70-hour power reserve and a silicon balance spring, the MT5813 is certified by the Swiss Official Chronometer Testing Institute (COSC) and outperforms the standards set by the institute.
Available in a traditionally woven Jacquard strap, classic steel and gold bracelet or in a tribute to the era of 1970’s racing, a bund in aged dark brown leather with ecru topstitching and a steel folding clasp.
ROYAL
TUDOR first used the Royal name in the 1950’s to draw attention to the superior quality of it’s watches whilst remaining affordable, staying true to the original vision of the brands creator Hans Wilsdorf. The new additions to the Royal range continue to build on this vision and showcases first-class technical performance with a refined aesthetic that comes in 28, 34, 38 or 41mm sizes.
With an all-new sunray motif for its dials, available in black, silver, champagne-colour or blue, the sunray motif creates beautiful lighting effects and reflections that accentuate the chic character of the Royal range and are all accompanied by a date function that sits at 3 o’clock.
To complete the collection, TUDOR have also produced a diamond-set mother-of-pearl version for the 28mm size. The new Roman numeral hour markers can also be enhanced by stunning eight diamond-set hour marks.
This classic and elegant line of watches continues to impress and innovate with its ability to blur the line between both classic and sports watches showcased by the added comfort of an integrated three link wide satin-brushed metal bracelet that features two slimmer polished elements for a final touch of luxury.
