Introduction
Modern slavery is a crime and a violation of fundamental human rights. It takes various forms, such as slavery, servitude, forced and compulsory labour and human trafficking, all of which have in common the deprivation of a person’s liberty by another in order to exploit them for personal or commercial gain.
Baker Brothers has a zero-tolerance approach to modern slavery, and we are committed to acting ethically and with integrity in all our business dealings and relationships and to implementing and enforcing effective systems and controls to ensure modern slavery is not taking place anywhere in our own business or in any of our supply chains.
We are also committed to ensuring there is transparency in our own business and in our approach to tackling modern slavery throughout our supply chains, consistent with our disclosure obligations under the Modern Slavery Act 2015.
We expect the same high standards from all of our contractors, suppliers and other business partners, and as part of our contracting processes and we include specific prohibitions against the use of forced, compulsory or trafficked labour, or anyone held in slavery or servitude, whether adults or children, and we expect that our suppliers will hold their own suppliers to the same high standards.
This policy applies to all persons working for us or on our behalf in any capacity, including employees at all levels, directors, officers, agency workers, seconded workers, volunteers, interns, agents, contractors, external consultants, third-party representatives and business partners.
Our Business and Supply Chains
Baker Brothers sell jewellery and watches of exceptional quality, along with many sought-after brands. Impeccable quality and unparalleled service are at the heart of everything we do, and our business and culture are built around corporate philanthropy. Our purpose is to provide an enriched and memorable experience, which means making a positive difference to the world we live in, our customers, our team, our suppliers and our wider communities.
We purchase jewellery and services directly from suppliers, 95% of which are based in the UK. Baker Brothers is a highly trusted jewellery and diamond specialist and have been since 1839. As a family-owned business, we benefit from long-standing relationships with many of our suppliers. Procurement of gemstones, precious metals, jewellery, watches, services and non-stick supplies is managed by our senior specialist buyers.
We establish a relationship of trust and integrity with all our suppliers, which is built upon mutually beneficial factors. Our supplier selection and onboarding procedure includes due diligence of the supplier's reputation, respect for the law, compliance with health, safety and environmental standards, and references.
We have not been made aware of any allegations of human trafficking or slavery activities against any of our suppliers, but if we were, then we would immediately cease trading with the supplier and report it to the authorities.
There have not been any major changes in our business structure since the last statement was made.
