Dynamic and forward-thinking, this metropolis, known as "the city that never sleeps," is characterised by its innovative spirit, being the origin of numerous pioneering and influential concepts.

A PIONEERING VISION

In the early 20th century, German engineer August Eberstein collaborated with Hamburg entrepreneurs Alfred Nehemias and Claus Johannes Voss to pioneer leak-proof writing instruments, revolutionising the industry. Their first creation, unveiled in 1909 as the "Rouge et Noir," ingeniously prevented ink spills, drawing inspiration from roulette's safest betting strategy. Montblanc, named a year later after the towering peak of the European Alps, symbolised the founders' dedication to excellence and innovation, with its iconic six-point white star emblem adorning every Montblanc tool since.

Central to our Hamburg-based Manufacture is the Artisan Atelier, where skilled craftsmen meld traditional techniques with modern methods to craft Montblanc fountain pens, focusing on perfecting the nib. From platinum to solid gold and precious stones, materials are meticulously selected for limited editions like the Great Characters, each pen undergoing rigorous testing to ensure an exceptional writing experience. With a diverse range of nib widths, including the innovative flexible nib, Montblanc offers options to suit various writing styles, further complemented by bespoke nibs for a personalised touch.
